Keri Bean is a mission operations engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. She currently works on the Dawn mission as a science planning and sequencing engineer and on the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity as a Tactical Uplink Lead and Mobility/IDD Engineer. She got her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Texas A&M University in meteorology, with her focus on studying the weather on Mars. She has worked on the Mars rovers Spirit, Opportunity, and Curiosity, along with the Phoenix Mars Lander, the NEAScout cubesat, and the Hubble Space Telescope. In her spare time, she is an active member of the R2-D2 Builder’s Club with two Astromechs fully built and cosplays as Rey with the Rebel Legion. She is also very passionate about outreach and spends a lot of time visiting schools to teach kids about robotics and encourage women into STEM fields.
